There are times when horses and ponies are not suited to rehoming owing to their age or their health. These animals spend their lives being cared for at Shy Lowen.
You can help us care for them by choosing your favourite and sponsoring him or her. You can do this for as little as £10 per year but please give as much as you can.
In return you'll receive a certificate, a photo and a letter from 'your' horse - you'll also have a warm glow inside from that great feeling that you've helped your favourite to have a happy life.

HALLEYS COMET
Comet was the inspiration for Shy Lowen. He is the reason the sanctuary began. His life was one of abuse and neglect and he had, understandably, become aggressive towards people.
He is now very loving and gives great hugs.
TOM THUMB
Tom is the youngest of our permanent residents. He remains at the sanctuary because his front legs are twisted so his hooves face outwards. He is a very happy little person and has a huge heart.
MYSTIC MOOSE
ex steeple chaser Moose was born on 18th April 1978. He had a serious bout of colic in 2006 which kept him in Leahurst Hospital for 12 days. He now has his food liquidised.
FRED
Fred was a dressage horse who lost his career when he began to suffer inexplicable blackouts. Medical tests were unable to verify the cause but they appear to be panic attacks. He is in good health and is enjoying his retirement.
