Beauty is a 14hh dark brown mare, born in approximately 2005.

She was part of a group of horses to be trained for a riding school, but her very nervous temperament made her unsuitable for their needs. She came to Shy Lowen in 2012, where she overcame her initial fear of people and began her training to be ridden. She then found an understanding and patient home as a companion with loaners who are willing to spend time continuing her training and building her trust.

Brown Boy is a 14.2hh bright bay cob, born around 2008. He was bought as a newly backed youngster but he developed behavioural problems and came to Shy Lowen in early 2013.

Initially very shy of people, it was decided that his ridden training should be started again from the beginning. He found an experienced home with a patient loaner who spent a lot of time gaining his trust. He continued his training in his new home and has since progressed to become a lovely riding pony who also hacks out.

Prince Charming, Charmer to his friends,

is a 14hh black pony born in 2006.

He came to Shy Lowen in 2011

because his owner found him difficult to manage. Charmer has a very mischevious, playful, larger than life character, and is always looking for trouble! Charmer needed a knowledgeable home where his quirky ways would not cause upset and his fun way of being would be enjoyed. Thankfully, one of the Shy Lowen volunteers fell in love with him and decided to rehome him herself.

Cherry is a skewbald Shetland pony born in 2004. She came to Shy Lowen in July 2013 along with her long term companion Trinity. Cherry was initially very attached to Trinity, but after introducing them to the Shy Lowen ‘herd’, they soon made other friends and became less dependent on each other. This meant we were able to separate them and Cherry was offered a home as a companion, while Trinity remained here as a permanent resident.

Dolly is a 17.1hh bay mare born on 20th April 2002. She came to Shy Lowen in 2010, as her previous owner informed us she suffered from COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease), which is similar to human asthma. Dolly is a gentle giant with a very friendly temperament, and loves people and food. Dolly is also a willing and responsive ride. She found a home in beautiful countryside where she now lives with a group of other horses and enjoys life as a ‘happy hacker’

Fizz is a very pretty 15hh Welsh Section D type cob born in 1998. She came to Shy Lowen along with Angel in summer 2013, after their owner was no longer able to care for them. Fizz is a gentle horse and very good to handle. Despite having not been ridden for several years, she proved to be a very safe and completely bombproof ride. Fizz found a home as a companion and ‘happy hacker’, while Angel will remain at Shy Lowen.

Friday is a skewbald miniature Shetland pony, born on Friday 13th May 2011, which is how he got his name. Friday is a typical Shetland, cheeky and bold with a great sense of humour! 

He found a home as a companion pony alongside Domino.

Macy is an 11.2hh registered Welsh Section A mare, born in 2007. She is a lovely bright bay, with unusual white markings on her face, and three white socks. Macy is good to catch and handle, and is a great little riding pony for young jockeys, both on and off the lead rein. She is very sweet and safe, but can sometimes be quite a feisty and forward character.

Maude is a very pretty, sweet and gentle mare, and our equine dentist has estimated that she is in her twenties. She has been very popular among the staff, volunteers and other horses but is now happy in her new home.

Woodstock, or Woody to his friends, is a Carneddau Welsh Mountain pony born in 2007. He was rehomed on 20th December 2021.

Shimmer is a Carneddau Welsh Mountain gelding born in 2009. He has been happily rehomed.
